Did the Industrial Revolution cause feminism?
No,
the Industrial Revolution did not give rise to feminism, but
it did introduce many changes in society and the relationship
between the home and the workplace. Before the revolution
most men worked from their homes, or very near their
homes. With the onslaught of new and different ways
to make a living, more men left the home all
day, thus disrupting completely the normal balance of life both
men and women had experienced. Wanting to participate in
the new life offered by the industrial revolution, lower class
women began seeking work in factories and middle class women
began to demanding access to education and a much wider
range of occupations. |
