It’s the death of a child in the mother’s womb during any moment after fertilization (the union of the sperm and the ovum) and before birth. It’s called a miscarriage when the death is the result of any anomaly or dysfunction neither foreseen nor desired by the mother; and abortion when the death of the baby is deliberately sought, chemically, surgically, or by any other means.
